"Act Your Age" photo contest

The Society for Creative Aging is accepting entries for a juried photography competition and exhibitions titled, “Act Your Age!” Photos chosen by the jury will be on display during the months of September through November, at multiple locations in Boulder County.

The viewing public will vote for the twelve best photographs in the exhibitions. The winning photos will be published by the Society for Creative Aging in a 2010 Calendar titled, “Act Your Age!” and will be sold for fund-raising purposes. The twelve winning photos will also be displayed for one night in November at the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art, and for one night at the Boulder Public Library.

The theme of this competition aims to capture images of people who are aging out loud (65 and older) - living, playing, learning, and loving what they are doing in the world. The exhibit will document the many facets of aging creatively. Send in images of people breaking barriers, debunking myths and living life to its fullest!

Deadlines for entries- 5:00 pm on August 14th.

Jill Greenberg at the Arvada Center

June 11 - August 30, 2009

Better known perhaps for her photographs of celebrities (including from more than a hundred taken: Clint Eastwood, Glenn Close, Jay Leno, Will Smith, Drew Barrymore and Arnold Schwarzenegger) Jill Greenberg is showing in the Main Gallery large-format works from two other career-pivotal series on animals. Her Monkey Portraits present primates, classically posed and with gestures and facial expressions arrestingly similar to humans. The Ursine series features studio portraits of black, grizzly and polar bears that again sport a variety of human-like postures and facial expressions.

Greenberg was born in Canada but grew up in Detroit. She earned a BFA degree in photography from the prestigious Rhode Island School of Design. After pursuing her professional livelihood 12 years in New York City, she moved to Los Angeles where she lives still and maintains a studio. The exhibition is organized in cooperation with Denver’s Michele Mosko Fine Art.
