Discover when the golden hour is at your current location, and explore how golden hour changes.

NY Times - Lament for a Dying Art

PARIS — When photojournalists and their admirers gather in southern France at the end of August for Visa pour l’Image, the annual celebration of their craft, many practitioners may well be wondering how much longer they can scrape by. Newspapers and magazines are cutting back sharply on picture budgets or going out of business altogether, and television stations have cut back on news coverage in favor of less-costly fare. Pictures and video snapped by amateurs on cellphones are posted to Web sites minutes after events have occurred. Photographers trying to make a living from shooting the news call it a crisis.

Fall Summit Workshops

The Fall Summit Workshops produced for some 30 years now by Rich Clarkson, convenes in Jackson Hole, Wy. in September and October with a lineup of instructors unique among the nations' workshops. With team teaching, Photography at the Summit (Sept. 27-Oct. 2) features National Geographic photographers William Albert Allard and Jodi Cobb, former editor in chief Bill Allen, World Press Photo winner John Moore, Bill Eppridge once of LIFE, MaryAnne Golon of Time, Dave Black and Bob Smith.

The Adventure Photography Workshop (Sept. 20-25) includes National Geographic Adventure magazine picture editor Sabine Meyer and top photographers Corey Rich, Keith Ladizinski and Scott Wilson of the North Face.
